Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Extensive testing of physical and chemical properties of fiberglass material and yarns from producer.
MACHINES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Scissors, knife, templates, Scott Tester, Instron Tester, ovens, analytical balances, thickness gauges, Mullen Burst Tester, calculator, Infrared Spectrophotometer, Viscometer, Hydrometer, Electrophotometer, microscope, sample cutter, Mit Flex Tester, color difference meter, etc.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives material from looms, finishing unit, Non-Woven processes, Supply Room, or grading areas.
Prepares yarn or fabric samples for various tests.
Tests samples per written instructions.
Runs chemical analysis when required.
Test pre-mixed finishes.
Prepares log and work sheets suitable for keying.
Advises Lab Manager, local Q. C., and production personnel of non-conforming materials.
Prepares and tests laminate samples.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

MOVING

Throughout Lab, Inspection and Finishing area retrieving samples. Frequency may be as high as 20 times per shift. Transport chemical drums on hand truck, material may weigh up to 500 pounds.

CLIMBING

As required to go up steps to Finishing Mix Platforms or Greige Inspection area. Frequency may be up to 20 times per shift.

LIFTING

Tensile tester weights, Instron clamps, other test apparatus, BGF Mat or yarn samples. Objects may weigh up to 50 pounds, with a frequency of up to 20 times per shift. Lifting of objects weighing more than 50 pounds will require assistance.

PUSHING/PULLING
-
Testing apparatus to set up for measurements, samples from boxes, yarn trucks with full yarn. Yarn/fabric/chemical containers on hand truck may weigh up to 500 pounds. Frequency may be as high as 50 times per shift.

Through 3 body zones and as required to set testing machines up to perform required test. To floor to retrieve samples or clean up work area. Some test require up to 500 reaches per shift.

VISUAL ACUITY

Accurately distinguish color shades, read all instruments, print outs, labels, and accurately count 1800's yarn.

BENDING/STOOPING
-
As required to retrieve, transport or store chemicals or test samples to make adjustments to testing apparatus, to retrieve or store data or work supplies, to clean work area.

OTHER
-
Loading laminate press requires lifting of up to 50 pounds to a height of up to 50" with load extended directly in front of body.
PREREQUISITES:
Proficient in basic skills of reading, writing, and math.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
Must accurately follow written instructions and determine percents, and averages for samples. Must have at least a high school diploma or GED (This must be presented before hire. Transcripts will be accepted as well.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous manufacturing laboratory experience highly preferred. Must have experience looking for quality issues/defects.
3rd Shift (12:00 AM- 8:00 AM)
40-48 hours/week
