Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
This position serves as a laboratory technician generalist; works towards implementing the departmental goals of standardization, realignment, and maintaining 100% proficiency in the CAP, CLIA, AHCA, CMS and TJC accreditations; Has responsibility for technically performing the full range of clinical laboratory procedures (as licensed) including Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology (Blood Bank), Serology, and Microbiology; and performs Phlebotomy and Arterial Blood Gas collections.
Performs a variety of laboratory tests, many of which are complex, involving numerous steps and techniques, and requires the use of professional judgment. Professional application of the principles, theories, and techniques of medical technology are used to produce consistently reliable test results which aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Trains other personnel and provides input in job evaluations. Assist laboratory administrative director in performance of general lab duties to include validation, quality control, nursing and physician support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology or meets the educational requirements as outlined in Florida Licensure Administrative rule 64B3-5.004 for a laboratory technician.
- State of Florida licensed as a clinical laboratory technician in any or all the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Serology, Immunohematology and Microbiology
- A minimum of two (2) years of full-time technical experience in licensed specialties to include test interpretation, quality control and instrument maintenance unless hired in a training position.
- American Heart Association current BLS certification required.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to multi-task while working in a high-volume work environment is required.
- Able to work effectively with team members, supervisors, patients and their families to accomplish team goals.
- Ability to plan, organize and perform job associated tasks to completion. Willing to adjust personal schedule to accommodate patient needs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computers and proficiency in the use of an electronic health record system required, CPSI/Evident preferred. Knowledge of web-based programs and Microsoft Office suite of products including Outlook, Word and Excel preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
