Job Description - Laboratory Manager - FT - Shft Varies - Rotating Wknds. - Req #1644 (7451-1644) Description Valley View Medical Center The Lab Manager is responsible for the direction and effective operation of the Laboratory Department which includes planning, controlling and monitoring administrative performance of the Laboratory; ensuring compliance with departmental and administrative policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with JCAHO, state and federal regulatory agencies; ensuring compliance with their standards and performance; participating in interdepartmental quality management; ensuring quality and timeliness of patient test results by investigating problems involving specimen collection, result reporting and turnaround time; designing, researching, reviewing, and writing format for laboratory manuals; writing procedures for review and approval by the Medical Director; ensuring that preventative maintenance programs are established, implementing administrative changes in laboratory procedures with regard to cost effectiveness; enforcing and assisting in developing safety, infection control, and waste management procedures to promote a safe environment; maintaining inventory and supplies; developing and monitoring the staffing and operational budgets; conducting cost analysis and feasibility studies and determining financial impact to ensure effective cost containment; exploring innovative approaches to increase revenue; analyzing laboratory computer application to manage data; preparing job descriptions, selecting, training, and scheduling of subordinate staff; contributing to resolution of conflicts within the Laboratory; ensure proper training of Laboratory personnel in new technology and laboratory procedures; interacting with other health care workers to solve problems; informing physicians concerning details and limitations of Lab procedures; defining hospital and departmental policies to physicians, patients and other health care workers; participating in hospital and medical staff committees as directed; facilitating effective working relationships inter/intra-departmental; and, performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Degree / Licensure / Certification / Registration : Requires a Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent.Valid BLS certification required. Experience Required :Must have a minimum of 5 years previous experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist with at least 1 (one) year of supervisory experience. Special Skills & Qualifications : Must possess the ability to delegate tasks to subordinate team members and oversee their performance.Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment. Must possess the ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time and to perform the essential duties of the position. Must possess the ability to use the following equipment:Telephone / Overhead Paging System / Fax Machine / Calculator / Computer / Centrifuge / Refrigerator / Freezer /. To perform as a general supervisor must be able to use the following equipment: Automated/Manual Laboratory Equipment to include: Microscope chemistry, hematology, immunoassay and coagulation analyzers.
