Shift Details: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Description:

This position is in a research lab that supports stable operations, productivity, and growth projects across the network including the Composites and Insulation businesses. The successful candidate will be required to build strong expertise in glass and raw material sample-preparation and testing (including equipment operation & maintenance). The candidate will also work closely with the Glass S&T Team and COE groups to support their projects, which may include activities such as glass melting and testing of various raw materials. The ability to work safely and independently, to collaborate with project leads, and to quickly learn processes are critical criteria of this job.

This is a fast paced, innovative environment where excellent communication skills are necessary to get the job done. Innovation and sustainability are guiding principles of the Manufacturing Innovation organization. As an Client Technician, your work will drive these initiatives and bolster the success of the company.
Reports to: Raw Materials Lab Leader
Span of Control: Individual Contributor

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, SCOPE, and CONTRIBUTIONS

Working safely is an expectation of work
Continuous commitment and attention to safety in the laboratory working environment.
Follows all safety procedures and protocols in the labs and on Granville site
Continuously strives to improve safety standards to ensure all team members remain safe
Follows all lock-tag-try procedures
Wears appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
Promptly reports all safety incidents or concerns to the appropriate resource
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
Work to drive a zero injury, zero defect, and zero loss culture
Actively participates in TPM deployment throughout the lab spaces
Sample Preparation
Preparing samples for various analyses
Working with various glass and raw material samples for the Composites and Insulation businesses
Physical property testing on a variety of materials
Glass and Refractory Brick Testing
Working in hot environment to melt glass for testing
Work with a variety of equipment to mix and melt glasses depending on project objectives
Work with cutting and grinding equipment to prep refractory brick samples
Working in hot environment to test refractory samples
Collaborates and Fosters Teamwork
Collaborate with other team members to ensure lab requests are complete in a timely manner
Assist in high priority workstreams as a team
Collaborate with internal customers to promote team-based problem solving
Actively contribute to team troubleshooting to ensure the fulfillment of lab goals and objectives

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
High School Diploma or GED or Bachelor’s degree is preferred
Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Experience with raw material splitting and grinding
Experience with particle size sieving

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Strong verbal and written communication
Comfortable working safely with high temperature materials
Excellent attention to detail
Willingness to support cross-functional customers
Comfortable working with saws and other equipment

ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Unwavering commitment to safety
Strong interpersonal skills
Exhibits a sense of independence and ownership over work
Proven multitasking and planning / organizing skills
