The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety policies and procedures to ensure a secure working environment for all employees and branches (Lake Bluff, Chicago, Milwaukee).Establish measurable safety-related goals and objectives in the same manner as profitability, quality, and productivity. This role involves identifying and mitigating potential hazards, conducting safety training programs, accident investigation and follow-up, and promoting a culture of safety awareness.
What You'll Be Doing :
- Formulate, update, and implement safety policies and procedures which are in compliance with organizational objectives, as well as local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines.
- Establish and adhere to an annual safety budget.
- Regularly review and enhance safety protocols to address emerging risks.
- Conduct safety training sessions for employees, emphasizing best practices and compliance with safety regulations.
- Provide ongoing education on new safety standards and procedures.
- Establish effective communication channels for safety-related information throughout all departments.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness through regular communication and campaigns.
- Lead worker compensation initiatives including investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses, documenting findings and recommending preventive measures.
- Track and trend worker's compensation claims and OSHA recordables.
- Generate reports on safety performance for management review.
- Ensure a specific reduction in the percentage, number or cost of worker's compensation claims and experience modification rate (EMR).
- Develop and manage a comprehensive return-to-work program to facilitate the safe and timely return of injured employees to productive work activities.
- Collaborate with human resources, medical providers, and insurance carriers to coordinate accommodations and support services for injured employees during inspections, citations, and audits.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents.
- Develop and maintain incident reporting systems.
- Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and ensure the company's compliance.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct drills and training exercises to ensure preparedness for various emergency scenarios.
- Regularly inspect all work areas to identify potential hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to implement corrective measures and prevent accidents.
- Complete a job hazard analysis for all applicable positions within the company.
- Responsible to drive daily in a company vehicle with or without passengers to branch locations and or job sites.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Safety Manager, preferably in the landscaping, construction or related industry.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, ASP) is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong understanding of workers' compensation laws, regulations, and claims management principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must be bilingual.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Candidates must have a valid local driver's license and good driving record.
- Required to pass a post-offer drug screen and (ongoing) periodic drug screen according to DOT guidelines.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
