Lathe Operator

Position Summary

Smith Brothers Tool Company is seeking a skilled and reliable Lathe Operator to join our manufacturing team. The Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and/or CNC lathes to produce precision parts that meet quality and production standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathes according to work instructions, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job travelers.
  • Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each job.
  • Monitor machine operation to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.
  • Perform in-process inspections using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Make minor machine adjustments and offsets as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Document production data and report any issues to supervision.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating manual and/or CNC lathes preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic knowledge of machining practices, tooling, and materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
