Launch Vehicle Mission Integrator Apply
About the Role
The Launch Vehicle Integration (LVI) Mission Integrator is responsible for generating and verifying the interface requirements between theclient designated Spacecraft and the Launch Vehicle (LV). The LVI organization is looking for an experienced engineer to support integration activities between the spacecraft and multiple launch vehicles, including the Vulcan, H3, New Glenn, Falcon Heavy, Starship Super Heavy, Neutron, Terran R, Ariane 6, and other up and coming launch service providers.
Essential Knowledge Includes:
- Understanding a variety of engineering disciplines necessary to provide coordination between our client and the LV contractor design teams in support of the development of environmental (shock, vibration, acoustic), thermal, venting, gas velocity impingement, contamination, mechanical/electrical ground support equipment, mission design, and mechanical/electrical flight interface requirements between the Spacecraft and LV/launch site.
- Coordinating the distribution and configuration management of integrated system analyses inputs/outputs in a diverse set of technical areas including dynamic environments, control dynamics, structural dynamics, aero-physics, thermal, Avionics (EMC/EMI, RF, and electrical), mechanical, mission design trajectory and performance, contamination, and Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
- Generation of the LV statement of work Interface Requirements Document (IRD) and Interface Control Document (ICD) between the Spacecraft and LV.
- Supporting requirement allocation/flowdown to the LV system from the Spacecraft functional areas, and down to various Spacecraft subsystem design specs from the LV system.
- Negotiating LV interface requirements that affect Spacecraft design with the impacted Spacecraft functional team, and developing optimal system-level solutions to any requirement incompatibilities which arise.
- Supporting development of test plans and test execution for risk reduction, and requirement verification of Spacecraft and LV hardware interfaces.
- Developing ICD requirement verifications and closure plan that meet client and customer expectations.
- Manage closure plans and verification evidence for each ICD requirement allocated to the Spacecraft System, including GSE.
- Planning and execution of technical reviews (e.g. working group meetings, chairing technical interface meetings, design reviews, internal review boards) for both our client internally and between our client and the LV contractor.
- Generating input to and presenting launch systems status at monthly and quarterly program status reviews with our client's customer and management.
- Authoring technical and engineering memos as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
- Related experience may be considered in lieu of required degree
- Advanced degree may count towards years of experience
- Thorough knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary design & development teams
- Understanding and experience with the practical application of requirements development and management, system design, systems integration, technical risk identification, management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
- Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret US government security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret or above clearance
- Ability to decompose large complicated problems into manageable pieces, understand problems from different points of view, and explain issues/solutions to other engineers and management
- Self-starter with an ability to quickly reach a level where minimal supervision and direction are required
- Experience with SC to LV integration and requirement development/verification.
- Experience reviewing Mechanical/Structural design drawings for requirement compliance
- Ability to apply technical principles, theories, and concepts and contribute to the development of new principles and concepts.
- Technical problem solving skills and ability to develop innovative technical solutions.
- Ability to guide technical designs through development into a final deliverable product.
- Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment emphasizing rapid prototyping and fielding of capabilities, with minimal supervision.
- Proven successful experience in project definition, simulation, implementation, lab integration and test.
- Ability to read schematics, use service manuals, follow test procedures, and use logical trouble shooting techniques
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, Government, or US Military
