Position Overview: The Lead Community Programs and Camp Educator is a full-time, hourly position that will work closely with the Community Programs & Camp Manager in growing and facilitating our community programs, K-12 outdoor education, and camps. This position requires strong communication skills to work collaboratively with all staff and leadership, as well as parents, chaperones, and teachers. This lead educator will need to be both flexible and organized.
The Lead Community Programs and Camp Educator is responsible for acting as a lead educator on field trips and outdoor afterschool programs, coordinating and executing Farm Open Houses, and Seasonal Camp planning and participation. This individual will embrace the In-With-For learning approach and be excited to share their passion for nature and learning with children. The Lead Community Programs and Camp Educator will play an instrumental role in connecting children and families to nature and creating the happy, safe, and fun Connolly Ranch environment!

Allocation of time and resources for this position varies depending on seasons. The focuses are broken down as follows:

  • School Year - Outdoor Afterschool Program, Field Trips, Farm Open Houses, and Seasonal Camps
  • Summer - Summer Camp Lead

Program Descriptions:

Outdoor Afterschool (grades 1 -6)

Outdoor Afterschool is designed for children (grades 1 - 6) to experience the great outdoors through intentional learning and a discovery-based curriculum. Each week will include different activities and lessons, basedinwithfor Nature. They learn survival and naturalist skills, participate in physical education through hikes and games, work on farm and garden projects, and have fun with their friends.

Field Trips (PreK-5th grade)

Connolly Ranchs field trip programs were developed within our discovery-based curriculum, which focuses on cultivating students 21st Century Learning Skills (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication) in an outdoor environment. We offer engaging, hands-on, farm-based educational experiences designed to meet California state standards from preschool through elementary school.

Farm Open House

Farm Open House is designed to give the community an opportunity to spend quality time on the ranch during the weekend, connecting with our animals, exploring our garden, and playing in our majestic Bay Grove. Each Open House includes the option to participate in a teacher-led art class or wellness and yoga session.

Seasonal Camps

The camp curriculum at Connolly Ranch is centered around friendship and gratitude while using our five senses to notice the world around us - how it's different today than it was yesterday and how tomorrow will bring new questions, observations, and adventures.

Each seasonal camp brings new experiences for ever-changing exploration and fun. Campers grow, learn, and play through creative eco-art projects, interaction with farm animals, hikes, crafts, games, gardening, music, movement and more.

We offer several school year camps as well as an amazing summer program.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Work directly with Community Programs & Camp Manager to understand program flows and curriculum as they pertain to each individual program.
  • Help plan, develop, and lead programming (field trips, outdoor afterschool, camps, and community events).
  • Responsible for field trip scheduling and communications.
  • Manage Community Program registration through the backend platform and communicate directly to participants.
  • Communicate regularly, in person, with parents about child feedback and upcoming activities and events.
  • Act as lead educator of Summer Camp Stewards (ages 9-13), including active engagement with the children, program development and execution, and one overnight campout per session.
  • Assist in developing and growing our Farm Open House program and be an onsite program lead.
  • Work in tandem with the Community Programs & Camp Manager and act as a co-point person for staff and parents.
  • Meet weekly with the Community Programs & Camp Manager to plan, better understand seasonal activities and themes, and gain feedback and professional development.
  • Participate in staff meetings and special events to ensure connection with the rest of the staff and the CREC community.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as programs grow.

Main Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude and passion for Connolly Ranchs vision.
  • Post-secondary certificate or BA degree.
  • Two + years of work experience in environmental education, sustainable agriculture or delivering outdoor education in a team teaching model context.
  • Previous educator or camp experience is required.
  • Proficiency with Google G Suite and Microsoft Office 365 required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and mail merge functions).
  • Effective time management prepares in advance and timely delivery of materials and updates.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function well as both a team lead and team member.
  • Computer proficiency with various systems, or ability and eagerness to learn new systems.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a ranch environment with nontraditional offices.
  • Some weekend availability is necessary.
  • Successful completion of a LiveScan background check.
