Lead Data Engineer (Python, AWS, SQL, GenAI) Enterprise Platforms Technology (EPTech) is a group that establishes best practices for building technology solutions across Capital One and delivers capabilities that showcase those practices. Team: The Marketing and Messaging Team The Marketing and Messaging team delivers hyper‑personalized messages and experiences that delight the customer, attract prospects and drive increasing business value. They build scalable platforms that deliver omnichannel messages in owned and paid Ad‑tech channels. What You'll Do Collaborate across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions using full‑stack development tools and technologies. Work with developers who specialize in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full‑stack systems. Utilize programming languages such as Java, Scala, and Python, along with open‑source RDBMS, NoSQL databases, and cloud‑based data warehousing services like Redshift and Snowflake. Stay current on technology trends, experiment with new tools, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other engineering community members. Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud‑based solutions that empower millions of Americans to achieve financial empowerment. Write unit tests and perform code reviews to ensure rigorous design, elegant code, and optimized performance. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree At least 4 years of application development experience (internship experience does not apply) At least 2 years of experience with big data technologies At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud) Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree 1+ year of experience leveraging AI‑assisted coding tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot, etc.) 7+ years of application development experience including Python, SQL, Scala, or Java 4+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud) 4+ years with distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL) 4+ years working on real‑time data and streaming applications 4+ years with NoSQL implementation (Mongo, Cassandra) 4+ years data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake) 4+ years with UNIX/Linux, including basic commands and shell scripting 4+ years of data modeling for data warehousing 2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices Capital One is an equal opportunity employer (EOE, including disability and veteran status) committed to non‑discrimination in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
