Job Title: Lead Database Architect / Senior DBA

Location: Okemos, MI

Duration: 6+ months contract

Pay Rate: $65/hour on W2 or $75/hour on C2C


NOTE - Need only locals. Also, client will not sponsor or transfer for this position.


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Database Architect / Senior DBA to design, optimize, and guide enterprise-wide database solutions. This role will be responsible for driving database strategy, ensuring high performance and availability, and mentoring technical teams while supporting a modern, multi-database environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and recommend scalable, high-performance database architectures
  • Evaluate and implement solutions to ensure high availability, reliability, and flexibility
  • Develop and maintain database best practices, standards, and documentation
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues across environments
  • Build and maintain automated processes for database maintenance
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and define future database roadmap (buy vs. build)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (development, infrastructure, business)
  • Manage relationships with database vendors and service providers
  • Mentor DBA team members and technical leads


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of Database Administration experience


Hands-on experience with at least 3 of the following:

  • Oracle
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • PostgreSQL
  • MySQL / MariaDB
  • Snowflake
  • MongoDB


Strong experience in:

  • Database performance tuning and optimization
  • High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions
  • Backup and recovery strategies
  • Automation of database maintenance tasks
  • Experience working in Windows Server and/or Unix/Linux environments
  • Exposure to Cloud database technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT processes and tools
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills


Preferred Skills

  • Experience in database architecture and solution design
  • Prior experience in a lead or mentoring role
  • Exposure to enterprise-scale, multi-database environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
