Duties

This position is located in the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, Office of Information Systems, Voice and Data Services Division.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Serves as the senior technical network engineer and administrator.
Formulates comprehensive plans and provides technical leadership and direction to accomplish activities associated with the acquisition, implementation, fielding and sustainment of IT resources.
Provides expert technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on IT issues affecting wired and wireless data networks, voice communications and remote access.
Reviews and provides comments to policies and regulations issued internally and by external USCP organizations.
Monitors the performance, configuration and optimization of network firewalls, routers, and switches to ensure requirements are met in accordance with approved guidance.

Serves as a lead network specialist for specified projects with overall responsibility for analyzing, planning, and coordinating the goals and objectives of the project.
Provides technical advice to the team and ensures completion of work assignments by team members.
Trains or arranges for the training of team members in methods and techniques of team building and working in teams to accomplish projects and on-going assignments.
Participates in technical seminars, attends formal training, maintains contacts with vendors and contractors, and take other actions as appropriate to stay abreast of new technology.

Plans and coordinates the installation, testing, operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance of new or modified network hardware operating systems.
Manages network device accounts, rights and access to systems and equipment.
Manages systems resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
Ensures all necessary documentation for all work performed by the network operations center, system administrators, and Help Desk is properly created, adjudicated, logged signed and stored using currently available systems applications.

Citizen.
Successful completion of a Background Investigation is required.
Must complete a one year probationary period.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

For the CP-12 level you must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CP-11/GS-13 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Specialized experience is defined as experience which includes: 1) Providing technical and operational support for network, systems, and technical operational issues and concerns; 2) Project management principles, methods, and practices including developing plans and schedules, estimating resource requirements, etc; 3) Provide expert technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialist on critical IT issues; and 4) Design, develop and manage systems that meet current and future business requirements.
