Job Description
Lead Inspector is responsible for leading inspection activities to ensure parts, assemblies, and processes comply with engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and regulatory standards (FAA, AS9100, ISO). This role provides technical guidance to inspectors, supports quality investigations, and acts as a key liaison between Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating and programming CMM equipment to ensure precision and compliance with engineering specifications. This role requires strong attention to detail, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in a manufacturing environment.
Requirements:Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily inspection activities (receiving, in-process, and final inspection)
- Perform and verify dimensional, visual, and functional inspections of aerospace components
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, FAA, NADCAP, and customer quality requirements
- Approve or reject materials and products and document inspection results
- Conduct first article inspections (FAI) per AS9102
- Investigate nonconformances, assist with root cause analysis, and support corrective actions
- Maintain calibration status and proper use of inspection equipment
- Interface with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to resolve quality issues
- Review and approve inspection records, certifications, and reports, Operate and program CMM machines (Mitutoyo) to inspect and measure parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), DPD (Digital Product Definition) and technical documentation to perform accurate measurements.
- Create and modify CMM programs using software such as MCOSMOS.
- Maintain CMM equipment and ensure calibration compliance.
- Adhere to ISO and AS9100 quality standards and company procedures.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: 3–5 years operating and programming CMM machines in a manufacturing or aerospace environment (preferred).
- Technical Knowledge: Proficient in GD&T, blueprint reading, and metrology principles.
- Software: Experience with CMM programming software (MCOSMOS, equivalent).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with additional inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges).
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards.
- Knowledge of CNC machining processes is a plus.
