Lead Low Voltage Technician Apply
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Lead Technician to manage a crew of technicians in the installation of Cat 6 cabling systems for educational facilities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in low voltage cabling projects, possess strong leadership abilities, and be able to coordinate the activities of a team while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead a team of 4 technicians in the installation, termination, and testing of Cat 6 cables within school buildings.
- Team will be responsible for installing Fire Alarm, Intercom, and AV Cable and Devices.
- Plan and execute the installation of structured cabling systems, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Assign daily tasks to crew members and oversee work to ensure it meets industry standards (e.g., ANSI/TIA/EIA).
- Perform quality control checks on installations, including proper termination, labeling, and testing of cables.
- Maintain communication with project managers, school staff, and other stakeholders to provide progress updates and address any issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve installation challenges, ensuring minimal disruption to the school environment.
- Read and interpret project blueprints, floor plans, and technical documents to ensure accurate installations.
- Manage tools, materials, and inventory, ensuring the crew has the equipment needed for efficient work.
- Uphold safety protocols and ensure all team members follow OSHA and company safety guidelines.
- Train and mentor junior technicians, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certifications (e.g., BICSI Installer 2, CompTIA Network+) are a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in low voltage cabling installation, including at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Expertise in installing, terminating, and testing Cat 5e/6/6A cables.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ANSI/TIA/EIA) and best practices for structured cabling in educational environments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and project documentation.
- Proven ability to lead a team, delegate tasks, and ensure timely completion of work.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Experience leading cabling installation projects in schools or other educational facilities.
- BICSI Installer or Technician certifications.
- Experience with network equipment and infrastructure related to educational environments.
- Work will take place in various school environments, requiring flexibility to navigate different building layouts.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to minimize disruptions during school hours.
