Reports To:
The Lead Maintenance Technician will report to the Operations Manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Lead Maintenance Technicians will oversee a team of 3-5 other technicians.
Job Overview:
The Lead Maintenance Technicians will help to ensure continuous company operations by ensuring that the company’s facilities, machinery, and equipment are well-maintained in working order and by assisting in the planning of new projects and leading their implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Directs/coordinates the work of direct reports on a day-to-day basis.
- Works with Parts Manager to establish and maintain parts inventory and reasonable backstock of parts and equipment.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and plant systems.
- Inspects, evaluates, repairs, services, adjusts, and tunes a variety of equipment such as engines, motors, pumps, valves, control systems, boilers, heat exchangers, and chemical feed systems.
- Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.
- Cleans, services, and paints equipment, machinery, vehicles, structures, buildings, pipelines, storage tanks, and any other assets.
- Repairs, overhauls or replaces malfunctioning, damaged equipment or worn parts.
- Uses GMAW, GTAW, SMAW welding and Plasma cutting equipment to cut, heat, fabricate, and weld or braze various metals and/or metal alloy combinations, as needed for equipment repair and modification.
- Handles plumbing repair and installation for plant systems and equipment.
- Maintains and repairs HVAC systems to ensure proper climate control and air quality.
- Works with single-phase and three-phase electrical systems for equipment installation and troubleshooting.
- Installs, programs, and troubleshoots Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Programs and troubleshoots PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) for automated systems.
- Reads, interprets, and creates some technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Troubleshoots complex equipment problems and recommends time, equipment, and materials required to effect repairs; makes emergency repairs, as required.
- Installs, repairs, and uses air compressors.
- Maintains knowledge of water treatment systems and processes.
- Maintains general knowledge and carpentry ability.
- Develops, reviews, and archives maintenance and repair operating procedures.
- Maintains accurate records and files electronically and/or in hard copy as required of job plans, work performed, and materials and supplies used.
- Regularly reviews critical equipment records to ensure asset condition updates and repair planning.
- Confers with staff to determine equipment problems; suggests methods of minimizing such problems in an operational setting.
- Performs and oversees confined space entry (CSE), as required.
- Performs and oversees Lockout Tag-out (LOTO) work.
- Provides input on supervised staff performance evaluations including matters of discipline and/or commendation.
- Observes appropriate safety procedures and works to applicable codes and guidelines.
- Attends and leads training and safety sessions as assigned.
- Provides technical assistance and trains staff in job specific and safe work procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification preferred.
- Experience in industrial maintenance or very similar field required.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and PLC systems.
- Experience in welding and metal fabrication (ARC/MIG/TIG).
- Basic plumbing skills for industrial applications.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, air compressors, water treatment systems, troubleshooting and repair.
- Knowledge of single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
- Experience with VFD installation, programming, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail.
- Motivated by complex problem solving and adept at developing innovative solutions.
- Highly organized.
- Able to sit, stand, walk, crawl, stoop, climb for 8-10 hours.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Able to wear required PPE.
