Job Description
Whitman Legal Resources has an excellent opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join a 51–200 employee law firm in Parsippany, NJ within its fast-paced, dynamic Personal Injury Practice Group. This is a full-time, onsite position.
Qualifications:
- 1–5+ years of legal assistant or paralegal experience in a law firm required
- Personal injury experience preferred
- More senior candidates should have litigation experience through trial
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities:
- Support attorneys through all phases of personal injury litigation, from case inception through trial
- Manage and maintain case files, ensuring organization, accuracy, and timely updates
- Utilize case management software, such as Casepeer, to track case progress, deadlines, and client communications
- Communicate with clients, including conducting initial intakes and providing ongoing case updates
- Translate documents and provide interpretation for Spanish- and/or Portuguese-speaking clients, as needed
- Draft correspondence and assist in preparing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, and discovery materials
- Schedule and coordinate depositions, medical examinations, mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances
- Maintain attorney calendars and monitor all litigation deadlines
- Handle PIP-related correspondence and documentation
- Communicate with courts, medical providers, insurance carriers, and opposing counsel
- Obtain and track medical records, bills, and liens, including Medicare, workers’ compensation, and other liens
- Prepare settlement disbursements and coordinate with accounting for check requests
- Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, trial notebooks, and related materials
- Perform legal and factual research to support case strategy
- Provide general administrative and clerical support as needed
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
Compensation:
- $60K–$90K
