We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as a full time Children's Librarian at the Manassas Park City Library in Manassas Park, Virginia.

The Manassas Park City Library (MPCL) serves as a vibrant community hub dedicated to providing a diverse range of innovative resources, programs, and services. Founded in 2020, MPCL moved to the newly redeveloped Park Central in the heart of Manassas Park in Summer 2022. Conveniently co-located with City Hall, the new Park Central Library location is the community’s most exciting destination for learning, discovering, creating, and connecting.

This position is under the supervision of the Library Director and is responsible for supervising staff as assigned in providing outreach, programming, and instruction to Manassas Park City Library patrons.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Lead Programming Team through the program proposal process; aiding with proposal creation, maintaining an archive of programs, and ensuring alignment with strategic goals and collection development efforts
  • Provide leads and suggestions for future programming efforts based on best practices and community input; guide brainstorming for stellar programming
  • Plan and present inter-generational programming
  • Plan, present, and coordinate presenters for classes and events, maintain lists for future reference
  • Outreach to the community to educate about Library services, resources, and events
  • Connect Patrons with Library and community resources and services
  • Facilitate, maintain, and update the library program marketing to ensure quality and compliance; including the Library’s social media presence, website, and online calendar of events
  • Track and maintain program statistics, ensuring statistics are entered accurately and compiling statistical reports as assigned
  • Maintain programming supplies, including organizing and distributing stored or new supplies, and supplies purchasing at the discretion of the Director
  • Work with staff to plan and promote Summer Reading events and programs
  • Provide informational, instruction, and research help in person, online, and over the phone
  • Support staff training efforts
  • Resolve patron issues, including Library account and policy questions
  • May handle opening and closing responsibilities; counting money, completing daily cash reports
  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to staff, the Library, and Community as assigned
  • Act as the Person In-Charge (PIC) in the absence of Library Management
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • MLS or MLIS degree required
  • One year librarian experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings, and weekends
  • Knowledge of online library databases and services
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills– both verbal and written
  • Ability to speak multiple languages preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
