Full job description

Essential Functions

Maintains an up-to-date, working knowledge of general and specialized Library and non-Library resources in order to answer simple to moderately difficult questions at the Access Services Desk; via phone, email, or SMS; or through the Librarys chat service.

Supervises departmental work-study student as needed.

Conducts formal and informal networking and outreach to develop innovative approaches for the Library and its staff to address the needs of students.

Collaborates with colleagues to plan and enact strategies to support the Universitys mission and student success framework in the Library building, and through its resources and services.

Collaborates with colleagues to create tailored, practical, relevant information literacy class assignment, tutorials, and assessments.

Participates in team and committee work to contribute to ongoing projects in the Research & Instruction Department.

Participates in Library-wide activities.

Orders/maintains supplies in the department.

Provides support to professional staff working on special projects.

Will become proficient in the Alma library management system.

Will become proficient in the use of Springshare platform tools such as LibGuides and LibAnswers.

Will become proficient in all Research & Instruction Department procedures.

Performs other duties germane to the position as required.

Periodic evening and weekend work as required.

Qualifications


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Strong service orientation.

Ability to consistently interact positively with students and colleagues in the library.

Education:

Bachelors degree, OR

Currently enrolled in a graduate studies program.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior employment experience in libraries, preferably academic libraries.

Graduate coursework in any discipline, preferably in Library and Information Science.

Working knowledge of Spanish strongly desired.

Experience with any library management system, preferably Alma.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to interact successfully with all segments of the Library, University and community.

Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.

Ability to communicate deftly in virtual settings such as chat, text and other online/mobile messaging platforms, and email.

Ability to self-educate and self-improve for professional purposes.

Familiarity with equipment and software used in contemporary office environments.

Problem solving ability.

Flexibility: ability to adapt to new and unanticipated personnel and public service developments.
