Veterinary Care of Ithaca has been serving the Ithaca community for over 50 years. We are a progressive, small animal hospital offering general care ranging from pediatric to geriatric wellness and internal medicine, general surgery, and dentistry. We value a healthy work/life balance, as well as a warm, welcoming work environment. We are seeking licensed veterinary technicians to join our animal loving team. Our veterinary technicians provide support to doctors during patient exams, treatments and surgical procedures. Our veterinary technicians also are responsible for running both our in-house laboratory and pharmacy. We are looking for candidates with a current NY State veterinary technician license or those with similar accreditation from another state. New graduates and graduates intending on completing the VTNE are encouraged to apply. Signing bonus available!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting veterinarians with daily tasks, digital radiography, dental and surgical procedures
  • Inducing, maintaining and monitoring anesthesia under the direct supervision of a veterinarian
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens (blood, urine and fecal samples) for testing, culture, or microscopic examination
  • Performing laboratory tests and analysis (Idexx in house laboratory onsite)
  • Preparing and administering medications, vaccinations and treatments, as prescribed by veterinarians
  • Restraining and safe handling of dogs & cats in order to protect doctors, staff, clients and patient during examinations and treatments. Fear Free training and certification is required and provided as well as paid for by the employer.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and pharmacy logs
  • Client communication and education

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, attention to detail, a positive attitude and demonstrate the ability to be a self-starter with outstanding customer service skills. We encourage you to apply if:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with aggressive and/or sick patients ; controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal waste; as well as possible exposure to contagious diseases.
