POSITION PURPOSE Under direction, oversees and conducts a variety of nursing services in the medical group office. Duties include assisting with patient assessments, administering medications, and maintaining accurate patient records. The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction with respect and dignity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Plans, organizes, oversees, and personally conducts the delivery of patients care as directed by physicians and other higher level nursing staff. Including but not limited to, room and patient prep, specimen collection, medication administration, wound care, etc., within scope of practice. 2. Acts as a team member with other professionals and Paraprofessionals in the delivery of patient care services. 3. Assists in the preparation of monthly work schedules as needed. 4. Assists with the patient care plan; maintains medical and surgical equipment in sanitary condition and in good operating condition. 5. Oversees the compliance with infection control and safety regulations of the MGO. 6. Acts as liaison between MGO and other units. 7. Assists in the training and orientation of new staff. 8. Assists other professional staff on the care of patients and the provision of nursing services, central services supply, in-service education, quality assurance, infection control, fire, safety, disaster, or utilization review coordinator. 9. Back office duties including but not limited to, schedule patient appointments and follow-ups as needed, respond to patient calls, relay messages to providers, managing clinical inboxes, review patient documentation, stocking of the unit as needed. 10. Perform additional nursing-related tasks and assist with other duties as assigned, in accordance with facility policies and the LVN scope of practice. ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTIONS 1. Be compliant with organizational policies and procedures and related departmental procedures. 2. Follow all HIPAA regulations as outlined in the HIPAA Policy and Procedure Manual. 3. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 4. Excellent customer service skills for both inter and intra department. 5. Other duties as assigned by the physicians and Supervisor. 6. Other general administrative duties and projects as assigned. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 1. Knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of nursing as applied to a variety of health needs and practices. 2. Knows current trends and practices in nursing 3. Knowledge of preventive medicine 4. Knows causes, treatment, prevention, and early detection of communicable and chronic diseases, and handicapping conditions 5. Understands drugs and their administration 6. Can perform EKG s 7. Knowledge of fetal monitor 8. Understands principles of work direction and training of other staff 9. Ability to perform a wide variety of nursing services 10. Can operate a wide variety of standard and specialized patient care equipment 11. Maintains quality control in work performed 12. Observes safety precautions related to the work 13. Follows written and oral instruction of a technical nature 14. Deals with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress 15. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, medical staff, and other fellow workers 16. Trains and orients other nursing staff and volunteers 17. Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. 18. Possesses a current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of California. 19. Thorough knowledge of practical nursing theory. 20. Knowledge of standard practices, rules, and regulations related to licensed practical nursing. 21. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, aseptic technique. 22. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. 23. Ability to keep accurate records and effectively use EMR. 24. Ability to deal with a variety of patients, staff, health care providers, and community representatives. 25. Medical group office experience/private practice. 26. Bilingual a plus! Attitude 1. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a Critical Access/ Rural Health Clinic environment. It involves frequent contact with patients, physicians, and other CIMC staff. Work may have heavy emotional requirements. Interaction with others is constant and interrupted. The employee could be exposed to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions that are common to the clinical environment. Safety policies and good health practices are expected to be understood and observed. Physical / Mental Demands 1. Work closely with patients in all age categories. Patients are treated with care and compassion and with special regard for age-specific considerations. 2. Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including lifting, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. 3. Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. 4. Manual dexterity to operate a computer, telephone, copier, fax, and other such office equipment and medical equipment, as necessary. 5. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range. 6. Ability to work in stressful situations. 7. Fast and continuous work pace with variable workload. 8. Subject to many interruptions from multiple calls and inquiries and potentially emotional situations involving accidents, injuries and/or death. 9. Handle emergency/crisis situations in accordance with policy. 10. Potential risk of exposure to hazards from blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases. 11. Potential risk of exposure to hazards from chemicals (toxic and non-toxic, flammable materials gas and electrical or radiant energy or equipment with or without moving parts). EDUCATION CERTIFICATION Completion of LVN program EXPERIENCE Prefer two years experience as a licensed practical nurse. REQUIREMENTS 1. Possession of a valid license issued by the State of California Board of Nursing. 2. Current CPR certification in Basic Life Support
