About the Opportunity: FedTec is looking for a skilled and proactive Linux Administrator to manage and maintain our Linux-based systems and network infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering, monitoring, and ensuring the smooth operation of systems, with a focus on Linux OS, and log servers. This role involves system security, troubleshooting, backups, and ensuring compliance with government security policies and standards (STIGs). You will also collaborate with vendors and IT teams to keep the system updated, secure, and performing efficiently.

Position: Linux Administrator

Work Location: On-Site (Ft. Liberty, NC)

Clearance: Must have verifiable DoD Secret Clearance

Certifications: Must have verifiable IAT Lvl II

Primary Responsibilities

  • Linux OS Proficiency: Administer, manage, and maintain systems running on Linux OS.
  • Log Server Management: Ensure the effective setup and administration of log servers to track logs and manage system health.
  • System Updates & Certificates: Maintain the latest software versions and certificates for Nagios XI and log servers to ensure continuous monitoring and security.
  • Network & System Monitoring: Install, configure, and monitor computer networks and associated equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Analyze, identify, troubleshoot, and document issues affecting networks and servers, ensuring timely resolution of problems.
  • System Documentation & SOPs: Maintain accurate system documentation and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for routine tasks and incidents.
  • Network Configuration: Establish and maintain secure connections between computers and local/wide area networks (LAN/WAN).
  • Security Management: Ensure the security of organizational data and infrastructure by applying appropriate security protocols, including implementing access controls and performing regular security audits.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Perform daily security backups and ensure rapid recovery of services in case of a malfunction or outage.
  • System Updates & Communication: Inform staff about system updates, changes, and improvements, providing relevant support and training when needed.
  • System Maintenance & Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor and maintain the system environment, identifying requirements, installing necessary upgrades, and ensuring high performance.
  • Infrastructure Design & Security Requirements: Analyze system specifications and design infrastructure solutions that meet both operational and security requirements, including adherence to Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • System Installation & Configuration: Plan and execute the installation, selection, and configuration of system components (hardware/software) to optimize performance.
  • Testing & Compliance: Test server hardware, software, and management systems to ensure compliance with Government policies and internal standards.
  • Vendor Collaboration: Coordinate with vendors to upgrade system hardware, software, and other services as needed.
  • Access Control & System Security: Develop and manage access control systems, monitor user access, and continuously evaluate the security infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications/Experience

  • Strong proficiency in Linux operating systems administration and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience managing log servers and Nagios XI (or similar monitoring tools).
  • Strong understanding of network configuration and monitoring, including firewalls, routers, and switches.
