Job Description
The Zinn Law Firm is seeking a Litigation Paralegal for immediate hire. The ideal candidate has a minimum of three years’ experience working on personal injury matters on the plaintiff or defense side, but otherwise qualified candidates with less or different experience may be considered.
The Zinn Law Firm is widely regarded as one of the top boutique injury firms in the Bay Area, representing plaintiffs in personal injury and medical malpractice lawsuits. Our team currently consists of two attorneys, two paralegals, and an office manager, although we are planning on growing our attorney and paralegal teams.
Primary Duties:
- Tracking and working up personal injury cases to prepare them for settlement, mediation, and trial;
- Working directly with existing clients to understand their injuries and the course of their medical treatment, tracking their medical progress, and ensuring that required medical appointments are made and attended;
- Identifying client medical and billing records that are needed, and collaborating with the firm’s Office Manager to ensure that records are obtained -- on occasion, the Paralegal may be required to request medical records;
- Extensive review of client medical records to determine the nature and extent of clients’ injuries and claims and/or provide the first opinion on the merit of potential medical malpractice cases by conducting online research on medical terminology/conditions in support of such efforts;
- Conducting extensive case-specific fact research, including document review regarding alleged dangerous conditions of public property, and review of potential defendant assets available in public records;
- Potentially drafting both liability and damages portions of demand letters and mediation statements with attorney supervision;
- Drafting and responding to discovery with attorney supervision;
- Tracking and calendaring court, discovery, and other deadlines;
- Fostering productive ongoing client communication;
- Drafting pre-litigation claims documents such as notices to public entities and notices of intent to sue in medical malpractice cases;
- Drafting records subpoenas, complaints, and case management statements;
- Preparing and editing documents for paper and e-filing;
- Filing state and federal pleadings using e-filing systems and vendors;
- Working with the Office Manager on other litigation related tasks;
- Performing administrative and secretarial functions when needed; and
- Assisting in training new paralegal and other staff hires.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate would have with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working on personal injury and/or medical malpractice matters on either the plaintiff or defense side. However, as stated above, otherwise qualified candidates with less or different experience may be considered. Completion of a paralegal program and/or fulfillment of the requirements to be legally classified as a paralegal is preferred, but not required for candidates with a strong track record and applicable experience.
We are looking for someone who wishes to grow with our firm and become a long-term member of our team. Strong writing and communication skills are a must. Candidates must have strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and other basic computer software; the more computer and IT-literate the better. Familiarity with California and Federal rules of civil procedure, local court rules, and litigation calendaring are necessary. Fluency in another language, particularly Spanish, is also helpful, but not required.

Our office is located in Mill Valley, CA, right off the Seminary Drive Exit of Hwy. 101. We are in a suite with full views of Richardson Bay and Mt. Tamalpais, and ample natural light. We share the space with another personal injury law firm who have been close friends of our for a long time, promoting a collegial office environment. Remote or hybrid work is available, however we strongly prefer our new paralegal to be in the office two to three days a week for meetings, to perform tasks that require being in office, and to promote our collegial culture.
Compensation:
Pay range is $28-$50 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. This is a non-exempt position, so overtime paid at a rate of time and a half is paid. Periodic bonuses can also be earned depending on the individual’s and the firm’s performance, and the contribution the individual makes to the firm’s work and revenues.
