Unit Information:
\n • Medical Oncology with progressive care beds/pediatric patients.
\n • High acuity of PCU and small amount of med surg
\n Schedule:
\n *Self-schedule requests - you will enter your schedule requests so we can see your preferred schedule before balancing and posting the final schedule
\n *First week of orientation is Mon - Fri dayshift. Second week is 36hrs of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
\n *If you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on the department’s needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities at that time.

\n • Thoracic Oncology
\n Special Procedures/Unit Details:
\n •18J is a 36 bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care.
\n -Pediatric patients are cared for on this unit but are extremely rare and would likely be cared for by perm staff. Pediatric experience is NOT required to be agency RN here.
\n Required: High acuity PCU patient experience
\n -Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls
\n Special Equipment:
\n • B450 monitors GE telemetry system.
\n • Bladder Scanner.
\n • Alaris pumps.
\n • Stryker beds.
\n • Continuous Bladder Irrigation
\n • PCA Pumps
\n Requirements:
\n • 2 years of oncology experience preferred, but NOT REQUIRED
\n • Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), ACLS & NIH
\n • Ratio: 1:4-5 Med Surg Telemetry
\n • Ratio: 1:3 PCU
\n • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity.
\n • Previous travel experience preferred.
\n Skills Required:
\n • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
\n • Use of rapid response teams
\n • Feeding tube care and management
\n • Accessing Ports
\n • Blood Product Administration
\n • Central line care/management
\n • Peripheral Line Care/Management
\n • PICC line management
\n • Starting IVs
\n • Heparin Protocols
\n • Manage Cardia drips- no titration
\n • PCA
\n • Titrate Cardiac drips
\n • Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac
\n • External CPAP/BIPAP
\n • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
\n • Interpretation of ABGs
\n • Nasal Cannula
\n • Tracheostomy Management
\n Skills Preferred:
\n • Management of dysrhythmias
\n • IV insulin protocols
\n • Titration of Insulin drips
\n • Phlebotomy
\n • Chemotherapy Administration
\n • Monitoring Chemotherapy
\n • Wound Care/Wound Vac
\n • Arterial line management
\n • Surgical drains
\n • Non-invasive airway management
