Job Summary:
- This role is accountable for overseeing the efficient movement of materials across production, storage, and customer locations, ensuring minimal downtime, accurate deliveries, and seamless operational flow. This role includes managing logistics staff, scheduling workloads, and maintaining compliance with operational standards and safety protocols.
Job Duties:
- Lead and supervise logistics and shipping/receiving teams, including hiring, training, coaching, and administering disciplinary actions.
- Ensure all team members adhere to company SOPs, attendance policies, safety programs, and quality standards.
- Oversee onboarding and ongoing training in GMP, SQF, and equipment operation (forklift, refrigerated trailers, tractors).
- Track and report operational KPIs, maintaining up-to-date productivity boards and performance metrics.
- Manage shift transitions to ensure accurate handoffs and continuity in operations.
- Review production, inbound/outbound, and transfer schedules to allocate appropriate staffing, reduce production downtime, and minimize carrier delays.
- Coordinate material release requests with storage facilities to support same-day production needs.
- Monitor driver schedules to support material movements between locations.
- Reconcile daily work orders with inventory counts, investigating discrepancies and maintaining accurate records.
- Oversee pallet exchanges with external storage partners and ensure proper documentation.
- Manage attendance records and payroll submissions for the logistics department, including temporary staffing.
- Support production planning by verifying raw material availability and coordinating with material coordinators for upcoming production.
- Oversee cycle counts and coordinate with inventory management for reconciliation.
- Assist accounting with resolving invoice and billing discrepancies related to logistics activities.
- Ensure finished goods are moved efficiently to meet scheduled outbound deliveries.
- Uphold food safety and quality requirements per recognized manufacturing standards.
- Provide shift coverage when necessary and participate in handoffs to maintain operational continuity.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in food manufacturing or temperature-controlled warehouse logistics.
- Demonstrated experience in shipping, receiving, and production support.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Microsoft D365 is a plus.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to interact across multiple departments and management levels.
- Ability to operate standup forklifts and other material handling equipment safely.
- Solid general math skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to ensure operational efficiency.
