Overall Objective Of JobPosition is responsible for the medical evaluation of newly committed inmates, maintenance of prescription medications, consultation with the facility health care provider for the purpose of continuity of inmate care and other nursing duties as needed.Work is performed under the general supervision of the Warden, and in accordance with medical orders received from the facility health care provider.Essential Functions Of Job:Provide health care screenings as directed by the facility health care provider.Procure and distribute inmate medication.Perform blood draws as needed.Transport lab samples.Provide general nursing duties as needed.Provide immediate first aid and emergency services as needed.Maintain inmate medical files. Check, complete and maintain medical records specific to the correction facility. (Progress notes, prescriptions, faxes, etc.)Ensure that HIPAA compliance is maintained for all non-convicted inmates.Maintain inventory of the facility's medical supplies and equipment.Provide information to correctional officers on handling special medical needs of inmates.Supervision Exercised:Supervises in the care and custody of inmates when treating.Supervision Received:Receives frequent to occasional instruction and some supervision from the Warden.Working Conditions:Works in adequate workspace, lighting, and ventilation, but with fluctuations in temperatures.Frequent exposure to noise and disruption and little stress.Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.Potential exposure to extreme heat, steam, burns, falls, or cuts.Works in conditions of potential outbursts of disruptive behavior from inmates.Subject to working shifts or on-call as schedule warrants.Physical And Mental Conditions:Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.Must be able to stand, walk for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching as necessary to carry out duties of job.Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out duties of job.Medium work, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to ten pounds.Must have agility to be able to move frequently throughout the workday.Must be able to react quickly physically and mentally in the event of a disturbance or physical outbreak.Freedom from contagious or infectious diseases or other medical condition that would put inmates at risk or that would put self at risk in prison environment.Qualifications (Education & Experience):Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent and be a Licensed Practical Nurse.Possess Valid Driver's License.Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner to carry out essential functions of job.Must be able to read and follow instructions and to assist in training new employees or inmates.Must possess ability to maintain personal cleanliness.Must possess the knowledge of practical nursing theory and practice.Must possess the knowledge of physical illnesses, injuries, their obvious symptoms and appropriate medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols.Must possess the knowledge of drug schedules and handling.Must possess the knowledge of universal precautions.Must possess the skill in obtaining needed information through asking appropriate questions.Must possess the ability to implement medical orders of health care provider.Must possess the ability to prepare care and treatment reports and maintain appropriate records.Must possess the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Must possess the ability to work independently.Must possess the ability to make decisions on the basis of well-defined standards and regulations.Must possess the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
