JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Machine Shop Manager
Department: Production Department
JOB PURPOSE
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. Applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures
JOB RESPONSIBILITY SUMMARY
  1. Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  2. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as CNC, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. Are responsible for attaching or affixing pre-manufactured components and parts
  3. Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  4. Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  5. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  6. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  7. Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances
  8. Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled, position and fasten work pieces, operate equipment to verify operational efficiency, install repaired parts into equipment, or install new equipment.
  9. Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
  10. Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
  11. Daily clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter and maintain a good housekeeping procedure.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability required.
EDUCATION
  1. 4-year post-secondary education, or equivalent experience.
LICENSURE/CREDENTIALS
  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  1. 1-2 years of CNC experience
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  1. The work is usually of a repetitive nature, and so the employee must be able to continue doing the same work for long hours without getting bored or making mistakes, overall physical health should be robust, as the worker may have to stand for long hours and at times that is physically exhausting, they should be able to meet the daily targets, teamwork is also important in this line.
  2. Ability to work within the company Quality Management System and in accordance with ISO 9001: 2008.
