Basic Function Fabrication of machine parts and tooling for Manufacturing and Assembly equipment using manual and computer-controlled machining equipment. Responsibilities Strong Communication Skills – ability to converse with Machine Shop Personnel, Engineering Manager, Facilities Manager, Tech Shop personnel and Customer Facing Personnel (Customer Service Representatives and Account Management Representatives). Safely set up and operate machine shop equipment with oversight as needed including but not limited to lathes, vertical mills, conversational mills, CNC mills, surface grinders, band saw, as well as related fixturing and hand tools. Read and comprehend mechanical schematics and/or drawings. Demonstrate the ability to use all necessary specifications to drill, mill, turn, and/or shape mechanical parts and tooling. Plans sequence of operations by applying knowledge of tool and part construction, metal and plastic properties, machining methods, and shop math. Operate CNC equipment with oversight from a Tool and Die Maker. Work to close tolerances and desirable surface finishes. Utilize foundational understanding of mechanics and general tooling to fabricate and/or make recommendations to improve parts and tooling. Utilize understanding of material properties, e.g., Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Steel, Plastics, etc., to recommend and/or select the ideal material for the intended application. Responsible for following all safety regulations, including but not limited to the wearing of goggles, face shields, proper clothing, etc. Must be capable of working independently with some supervision when needed. Instruct personnel (Machinist I - Junior) in the skills necessary to improve proficiency and machining capabilities. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three (3) years machine shop experience. Completion of a Certificate/Degree program in machining or related discipline. Experience with 2D and 3D CAD programs (e.g., AutoCAD, DraftSight, Solidworks, ProE, BobCAD, etc.). Good written and verbal communication skills. Possess basic machinist tools. Must have general knowledge of some plant equipment. Strong math skills and must be proficient using both the metric and English systems including converting between the two. Must be able to use various precision measuring tools – calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, etc. without assistance. Must have a solid mechanical aptitude. Completion of accredited machinist certification program preferred. Credentials from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) in areas of Measurements, Materials and Safety, Job Planning, Benchwork and Layout, and/or CNC Milling and CNC Turning preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr
