Summary:

The Maintenance Engineer supports the reliability, safety, and efficiency of plant equipment and facilities through engineering analysis, preventive maintenance optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role partners with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to reduce downtime, improve asset performance, and ensure compliance with safety, food quality, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Support planning and execution of major maintenance overhauls, shutdowns, and equipment improvement projects, including scope development and manpower planning.
  • Assist in the development, tracking, and control of maintenance budgets and cost improvement initiatives.
  • Support maintenance stores and inventory management, including stocking strategies, inventory optimization, and elimination of obsolete materials.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve preventive maintenance (PM) and PM review processes in alignment with company standards.
  • Coordinate with planning/scheduling, inventory control, and maintenance purchasing teams to support efficient work execution and material availability.
  • Support and administer CMMS programs, including preventive maintenance (PPM), equipment history, parts room inventory, and facilities documentation.
  • Perform engineering analyses and root cause investigations for critical and repetitive equipment failures using equipment history and operational data.
  • Analyze line event data and equipment history to identify trends and reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Support parts room operations to ensure compliance with company policies and availability of critical spare parts.
  • Establish and support work measurement techniques to evaluate maintenance effectiveness and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate equipment, facility documentation, and drawings.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting, day-to-day maintenance activities, and assigned engineering projects.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Operations teams and vendors regarding equipment performance issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in and support cross-functional plant projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure engineering systems and maintenance practices support product integrity, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Follow all established safety programs, policies, and procedures, including LOTO and mobile equipment standards.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of SQF Food Safety Systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required.
  • 5+ experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance planning/scheduling preferred
  • Proven leadership and project management skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis capabilities
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Possesses excellent computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to travel unrestricted throughout the United States and other countries as needed.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on the site including exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud and hearing protection is required. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in cold, hot, and outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.


Physical Demand:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arms and fingers, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina and vision.
