Function

The Maintenance Engineer at Rea Magnet Wire’s Fort Wayne plant plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of manufacturing equipment and systems. This position is responsible for developing and optimizing maintenance strategies, coordinating work orders, and supporting plant operations through proactive planning and technical expertise. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and skilled in both preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for all manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance work orders, ensuring labor, tools, spare parts, and documentation are available.
  • Create detailed job plans including safety protocols, technical instructions, pictures, and estimated timeframes.
  • Lead planning and execution of plant shutdowns and outages, ensuring minimal disruption and timely completion.
  • Analyze equipment failure data to identify patterns and trends.
  • Validate the effectiveness of preventive maintenance activities and adjust as needed.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for equipment failures.
  • Support maintenance technicians and coordinate with operations for work planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment history, failures, and repairs using CMMS
  • Assist in equipment inspections, overhauls, and turnaround activities.
  • Monitor maintenance KPIs (PM/WO Compliance, availability) and report trends to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support the equipment condition monitoring program (vibration analysis, IR scans, oil sampling).
  • Assist with installation of new equipment and manufacturing machines.
  • Review newly installed equipment and develop PM schedules based on OEM recommendations.
  • Identify and implement new technologies and processes to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Optimize spare parts inventory and manage replacement of obsolete components.
  • Coordinate and manage external contractors, ensuring compliance with site safety standards and regulations using designated software.
  • Act as a backup to the Maintenance Supervisor when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or significant trade experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in maintenance engineering or reliability engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Proficiency with CMMS platforms (Max Panda, Asset Essentials, eMaint).
  • Experience with condition monitoring techniques (vibration analysis, infrared scanning, oil sampling).
  • Familiarity with maintenance KPIs and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with wire production equipment and processes.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Experience managing contractors and coordinating large-scale maintenance events.
