The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for both the mechanical, and as skills permit, electrical components of the entire factory. Mechanics are critical to achieving the Company’s goals that includes uncompromised food and human safety, FHFP targets, schedule attainment, waste/scrap reduction, shop and toolbox organization (5-S), active engagement with Production to identify and resolve issues prior to downtime.

  • Maintains all work areas in a neat, safe and orderly fashion at all times using 5-S approaches. There is a designated place for all tools, parts, tool boxes, etc. Facilities are tour ready at all times for customer inspections as well as governmental inspections (USDA, OSHA, FDA, EPA, Etc.)
  • Complies with all Company and Plant policies and procedures including conformance to the facilities’ GMP program (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Ensures all OSHA guidelines are followed always and addresses any unsafe conditions immediately. Validates the use of the Plants’ lock-out/tag-out and other safety procedures are followed at all times. Required PPE for specific tasks are worn as needed.
  • Responsible for FHFP, schedule attainment and near elimination of packaging material and ingredient losses. Ensures work orders that are assigned are completed with utmost level of quality of workmanship. Interacts with internal customers, namely production, to ensure they are satisfied with repairs.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and promptly repair mechanical issues. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical issues as skills permit.
  • Completes sufficient work orders and PM’s daily in addition to tending to emergency work as they arise with a true sense of urgency. Reports parts and labor on each job to ensure company is able to track spending by asset for possible rebuild or replacement.
  • Conducts, with Operators’ assistance, the required set-up and changeovers using checklists and fixtures to standardize all work, modifying fixtures as needed to optimize results. Change parts are to be maintained in designated area or shadow board and free of tape or other foreign matter (temporary fixes must be followed by permanent repairs).
  • Is aware of Plant performance in all key areas. Actively participates in daily shop meetings covering prior days’ performance and current days’ requirements. Engages in weekly meetings to ID key work orders and PM’s for weekend completion.
  • All paperwork required is filled out and submitted to be then entered by others into the CMMS to accurately track assets. Work order and PM completion rates are to obtain an 85% ongoing completion rate assuring thorough and quality repairs.
  • Supports various Plant initiatives to include Lean Manufacturing amongst others.
  • Provides well thought-out ideas to ongoing issues to ensure asset reliability, food safety, quality, cost reduction, turnover, etc. and takes actions without being asked for continuous improvement.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following list is representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

· A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Degree in ME, EE or equivalent experience is preferred.

· Ability to speak, read and write in English as a first or second language to properly follow quality standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and detailed operating manuals.

· Adherence to safety, GMP and efficiency standards

· Excellent communication skills

· Must have solid math skills with the ability to interpret results.

· Sound mechanical aptitude to “see” issues causing quality or throughput issues. Skilled at dismantling, repairing and maintaining equipment. Knowledge of operating hand and power tools. Knowledge of basic electrical, PLC and HMI is preferred and required for many mechanics.

· Position must have a keen attention to detail, ensuring all quality standards are met at all time to maintain assets and facility in a condition that is consistent with a food manufacturing facility and rivals World Class operations.

· Excellent problem-solving skills

· The stamina to keep pace with a brisk work environment understanding that each minute of downtime results in increased costs and lost business.
