Job Summary:

Working under the supervision of the Maintenance Director, the Maintenance Worker supports the Maintenance Departments goal of providing safe, clean, and attractive hospital buildings and grounds. The Maintenance Worker performs tasks to assist in maintaining equipment, buildings, and grounds as assigned by the Maintenance Director.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with floor maintenance, i.e., waxing, carpet cleaning, etc.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, i.e., mowing, edging, pruning, watering, etc.
  • Assist with walkway maintenance, i.e., snow/ice removal.
  • Assist with picking up trash, cigarette butts, etc. from grounds.
  • Assist with building maintenance, i.e., painting, replacing ceiling tiles.
  • Assist Maintenance Director with repairs or installation projects.
  • Perform daily inspection of boilers and pipelines. Notify Maintenance Director when boiler sections need repair.
  • Adjust and repair equipment such as lawnmowers, sprinklers, and hedge shears, using small hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and pliers.
  • Report any equipment malfunction or needed building repair to Maintenance Director.
  • Assist with waste disposal, following organizational policy and procedures.
  • Follow patients/residents rights policies at all times.
  • Assume accountability for data contained in the employees handbook.
  • Notify Maintenance Director when not coming to work as scheduled, i.e., late, sick, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Maintenance Director.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • High school diploma or equivalent desired.

Working Environment:

  • Work is heavy, required lifting and carrying equipment, materials, and tools weighing up to 50 pounds. Involves working both inside and outside. Involves crawling on hand and knees when working on underground plumbing, etc. Subject to wet and humid conditions while cleaning boilers.
  • Subject to noise and vibration of operating equipment.
  • Subject to extreme heat while working around boilers.
  • Requires some evening and night hours for floor care and quarterly kitchen cleaning.
  • Climbing, reaching, and balancing required when cleaning and repairing equipment.
