Do you love makerspaces and have a passion for crafting, creative projects, and tech programming? Are you excited to help patrons—especially children and families—learn how maker equipment can help them create projects, gifts, and decorations? Do you love learning new things and sharing what you’ve learned with others in fun ways? If so, bring your talents and skills to our library! Overview Under general direction from the Digital Services Manager, is responsible for assisting patrons in the Studio, training staff on makerspace equipment, and planning, designing and delivering makerspace programs. In collaboration with sister departments plans, provides, and evaluates maker programming with a strong emphasis on programming for children and families. Instructs and assists patrons in the use of makerspace equipment including sewing and embroidery machines, 3D printer, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and photo printers, along with all associated software. Instructs and assists staff and patrons with computer, internet, and device questions. Researches, recommends, and implements new makerspace equipment and software. Builds relationships with community members and organizations to foster responsive programs, services, and spaces; conducts technology outreach. Provides input to Digital Services Manager on department budget. Assists with statistics and reports related to makerspace use and programs. Works with Digital Services Manager to maintain, upgrade, and replace makerspace equipment. Interprets and explains department and library policies and procedures to the public. Engages in professional development activities to stay current with trends and best practices. Other duties as assigned. Education / Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. 2 years of experience in library makerspace or equivalent professional experience. Demonstrated ability to brainstorm, design, and execute original DIY projects. Proven experience with facilitating youth-centered programming highly preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Proficient with a wide variety of makerspace equipment and software that supports 3D printing, laser cutting/engraving, sewing and embroidery, sublimation printing, jewelry making, vinyl cutting, button making, and general crafting projects. Proficient with MS Office and a variety of laptops, tablets, and phones. Knowledge of the IMLS 21st Century Skills and instructional design principles. Well-organized and able to effectively juggle multiple priorities. Excellent written/oral communication skills and able to work effectively with others. Solid conflict resolution and training skills. Presents professional image within the community at various events. Ability to travel between district branches and to and from library sanctioned events required. Job Classification: Non-Exempt Hours: 37.5 hours per week with various shifts Benefits: Comprehensive Benefits Package includes Medical, Dental, Vision, IMRF, Sick Time, Vacation Time, Personal Time, 13 Paid Holidays, Life Insurance, and Employee Assistance Program.
