JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for managing vertical transportation performance of high use, critical business value elevators and escalators throughout the Authority. This position will focus on improving reliability and customer experiences, reviewing and approving all actions and plans from the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and overseeing a comprehensive reliability-centered maintenance plan is put into effect. The manager of vertical transportation will also coordinate with the Authoritys construction and maintenance departments on all vertical transportation related activities and projects.


Qualifications


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides engineering and management services for vertical transportation projects of non-routine to moderately complex nature.
  • Determines objectives and requirements, organizes programs and projects, and develops standards and guidelines for the Authoritys vertical transportation systems.
  • Assists with planning, developing, and administering the capital and operating budgets and programs for the Authoritys vertical transportation systems.
  • Develops scope of work of consultants and participate in consultant selection.
  • Coordinates production of drawings and specifications for vertical transportation projects with outside consultants and contractors and with Authority personnel.
  • Conducts witness testing on site and at manufacturers factory.
  • Conducts field inspections of construction projects to determine status of work and ensure compliance with project design and specifications.
  • Hires, trains, develops, monitors, and evaluates staff. Reviews and recommends personnel actions for approval.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Providing design plans which meet all local, state, and federal standards, codes, and requirements, along with environmental and energy guidelines.
  • Identifying, assessing, and incorporating new methods, materials, and technologies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, plus 10 years experience related to Vertical Transportation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience relating to this position.
  • Registered Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) and Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification
  • Design experience in lieu of PE registration will be considered

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time and constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of general engineering and vertical transportation principles, methods, and techniques
  • Working knowledge of related building codes and guidelines, including environmental and energy guidelines, City of Chicago building codes, ASME A17, NEC, NFPA standards
  • Advanced knowledge in utilizing design software including passenger traffic analysis and simulation (ELEVATE), CADD, and BIM

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • General office environment.
  • Works outdoors, in or near station/terminal/shop/garage areas and on elevated, ballasted, and subway track areas adjacent to and energized contact rails and moving trains.
  • Travels within the Chicago Metropolitan area and works various days and hours as assigned.
  • Occasionally required to travel to other locations in North America.

  • Computer systems and software, technical manuals, and field equipment
