Job Description

We’re partnering with a highly respected, mission-driven nonprofit that has spent decades supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence across Cape Cod to find their next Managing Attorney es as their current one prepares to retire after a decade with the organization.

If you’re an attorney who wants your work to matter — not just bill — this role offers the rare chance to build deep community impact while maintaining real work/life balance.

Why this role stands out

  • Direct impact: You’ll work one-on-one with survivors, helping them navigate family court, probate matters, custody, and protective orders during some of the most critical moments of their lives.
  • Autonomy & trust: This is a standalone role — you’ll run the legal services function while being supported by a collaborative leadership team.
  • Healthy balance: No billable hours, no 60-hour weeks. The environment is people-first, with flexibility when life happens.
  • Exceptional benefits: Generous PTO, strong health coverage, retirement plan, and the organization covers malpractice insurance, bar dues, and certain continuing education costs.
  • A values-driven team: Long tenure across leadership, open-door communication, and a culture rooted in empathy, collaboration, and mutual respect.

What you’ll do

  • Provide legal advice and representation in family and probate court matters, including divorce, custody, parenting time, and protective orders
  • Screen and support clients with a trauma-informed, empowerment-based approach
  • Coordinate a panel of private attorneys who accept referrals on a reduced or pro bono basis
  • Collaborate closely with counselors, advocates, and community partners
  • Participate in agency leadership discussions and occasional staff trainings
  • Support limited reporting and annual grant-related data collection tied to legal services
  • Court time varies week to week — some weeks are heavier, others lighter — and travel is primarily local across Cape Cod.

Who this role is ideal for

  • An attorney with family law and probate court experience who is confident working independently
  • Someone motivated by service, community impact, and advocacy rather than firm prestige
  • A lawyer seeking stability, longevity, and meaningful client relationships
