About the Role
The Company is seeking a Managing Director for Young Adults to lead a high-visibility grantmaking portfolio focused on helping young people transition to economic independence. This role is pivotal in addressing the complex challenges faced by low-income young adults, particularly in the areas of workforce development, college success, justice-impacted youth, and basic needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and refining the strategic vision for the portfolio, directing grantmaking activities, and identifying and piloting new models to prepare young people for a rapidly evolving labor market. External leadership is a key aspect of the position, with the expectation to represent the organization in various settings and to build and maintain partnerships with a range of stakeholders.
Applicants for the Managing Director position should have a deep knowledge and strong network within at least one of the core areas of the portfolio, with a genuine curiosity about the others. A proven track record in building programs or initiatives, particularly in a fast-changing field, is essential. The role requires a leader with a confident external presence, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively across complex, matrixed teams. A commitment to the issues of poverty and economic mobility, as well as the ability to balance long-term strategic vision with an understanding of current realities, are also key qualifications. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of relevant work experience, including senior operational responsibility, and a Master's or professional degree, or equivalent experience.
