Job Description

The Manual Machinist is essential to our repair and remanufacturing operations, producing and restoring high-precision components for electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, generators, and rotating equipment that power critical, heavy industry applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Machining & Fabrication

  • Set up parts in a 4-jaw chuck
  • Machine shafts on a manual lathe while holding tolerances of .0005" (half a thousandth) on multiple fits
  • Cut keyways in the center of a shaft using a manual vertical mill
  • Operate horizontal mills and manually bore large holes
  • Set up parts in a horizontal mill using V-blocks and angle plates
  • Perform threading operations on a manual lathe
  • Adjust manual lathe settings to eliminate taper cuts and chatter
  • Use a steady rest on a lathe
  • Drill and tap bolt holes accurately
  • Apply proper feeds and speeds in manual milling and turning operations
  • Manufacture or repair parts and machine components from blueprints
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with company policies

Qualifications:

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong understanding of manual machining practices
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to operate a forklift (or willingness to be trained)
  • Commitment to company policies, procedures, and safety standards

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical or vocational training preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with manual lathes, mills, boring mills, and other manufacturing tools preferred
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments required
