Purpose:
The position carries responsibility for planning, developing or adapting methods to produce discrete and repetitive style production parts and assemblies. The MEII is also responsible for design and procurement of assembly tooling, fixtures, control logic, and assembly nests supporting error proofed assembly for medium to high volume production. The MEII is responsible for plant/work area layout, equipment justification and use aimed toward maximum utilization of personnel, tools, equipment and material, and documenting manufacturing methods and sequences.
Main Responsibilities:
- Works with operations and engineering teams to develop cost effective, and robust
- solutions to manufacturing problems
- Coordinates vendors and outside contractors in the development of tools, assembly
- processes
- Versed in the principles and holds responsibility for implementing Lean & Continuous
- Improvement manufacturing methods
- Develops PLC logic and SCADA to control and capture production activity to ensure safe
- and poka-yoke proofing of assembly production end items
- Conducts Machine and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and develops detection
- and prevention methods and control plans to reduce risk and liability in end item assembly processes
- Develops process flow maps and identifies potential bottle necks and costly operations and
- makes recommendations relative to quality, tooling and manufacturing processes
- Conducts in-depth studies relative to justification of equipment purchases/modifications,
- work simplification, system standardization of parts, components assemblies and materials
- Prepares and implements changes in existing plant layout and capital investments
- Conducts time and motion studies. Assists in determining capacity and production standards
- Estimates and validates production capacity via pilot builds and run at rate studies to establish
- labor content of end items
- Develops process change plans, validates change effectiveness and implements changes in
- processes, time standards and bills of material
- Coordinates Tool Room, Suppliers, Machine Shop and Maintenance in the design and
- development of new tooling, fixtures, nests, machinery and controls.
We believe that the ideal candidate has the following qualifications and experiences:
- College degree in Engineering
- Five to Ten (5-10) years' experience in an engineering position
- Proven record of successful project management, preferably in automation and electro-mechanical production environment
- Facility using solid modeling software (Creo Parametric [Pro/Engineer WF5] preferred).
- Knowledge of 2-D modeling software (AutoCAD preferred)
- Functional understanding of measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, comparator, etc)
- Functional knowledge of manufacturing processes including turning, milling, molding, casting, extruding
- Project management experience with demonstrated ability to meet required timeline commitments
- Advanced use of typical office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)Intermediate use of MS Access or equivalent relational database platform a plus
- Knowledge of high level control system programing languages (VB, C++, Java) preferred
- Read and author PLC ladder logic
