Job Description
North American Rail Products is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead the development, optimization, and oversight of manufacturing, machining, and fabrication processes within a fast-paced production environment. This role is responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, process reliability, and adherence to safety and quality standards. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager provides technical leadership, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to support scalable, cost-effective, and high-quality production of railway components.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and improvement of manufacturing, machining, and assembly processes.
- Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality requirements.
- Provide technical leadership to production teams, machinists, and engineering staff.
- Plan and coordinate daily manufacturing activities to support production targets and optimize workflow.
- Evaluate equipment, tooling, and facility assets to ensure reliability, efficiency, and operational readiness.
- Investigate production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Establish and maintain SOPs, work instructions, process documentation, and control plans.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, operations, and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturability and scalability of products.
- Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects focused on waste reduction and process capability.
- Maintain accurate production records, reports, and engineering documentation.
- Promote a safe, organized, and compliant work environment through regular safety oversight and communication.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
Work Experience Required
- Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing or machining operations, including 2-3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience in CNC machining, fabrication, or industrial manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience with ERP systems and engineering documentation practices.
Skills & Knowledge Required
- Strong technical knowledge of machining processes, CNC equipment, tooling, and production systems.
- Ability to develop, optimize, and standardize manufacturing processes for efficiency, quality, and scalability.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis, corrective actions, and Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and leadership capabilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Sound judgement and the ability to make well-informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
