The anticipated salary range for this role is between $102,000.00 and $165,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.


Role Description

SMBC is building on the Market Data Services function. If you are excited about building and refining policies and procedures, interacting with third parties and with internal clients, then this opportunity is for you. This position focusses on the data content, licensing, and related compliance aspect of third-party data usage from origional source to use by business stakeholders (applications, databases, spreadsheets, desktops etc.) External data points will include but not limited to real-time, delayed data, derived data, reference data, research, news and alternative data,


Role Objectives

  • Understand and document the use of external third-party data and associated downstream processes.
  • Develop compliance procedures, materials, and communication methods that ensure and monitor proper use of data according to our contracts terms of use.
  • Ensure that proper procedures and workflows are in place and educate users in those procedures.
  • Conduct regular service reviews with technology and internal stakeholders, documenting product roadmaps and other relevant information.
  • Identify risks embedded in current practices and opportunities for improved service, cost savings, and control.
  • Serve as a key team member and lead on projects related to data usage and control.
  • Ensure inventory is properly reflective within SPEND.
  • Evaluate application compliance tools to assist with the reduction of risk and exposure to data licensing requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with our third-party suppliers to understand product and service offerings.
  • Keep up to date with exchange/supplier policy changes.
  • Participate in audits from exchanges or suppliers.
  • Review supplier data notifications and understand the impact to the organization.
  • Provide support for new contracts or renewal of existing.
  • Partner and collaborate with regional and international colleagues, internal stakeholders, and technology.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Required: High School education or equivalent.
  • Preferred: BA/BS (or equivalent experience)
  • Will have 3-5 years of relevant market data financial services experience with an understanding of financial data products used in banking, risk management, regulatory reporting, and financial services, covering such products as Bloomberg, Refinitiv, S&P, and Moodys.
  • Have a good working knowledge of licensing obligations, their touchpoints with other areas, how to achieve compliance and the potential impact of non-compliance.
  • Ability to effectively respond to dynamically changing work environment.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and a process-driven mindset.
  • Working knowledge of supplier provided access systems such as DACS and B-Pipe.
  • Proven ability to meet established deadlines while successfully manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Strong Excel knowledge.


Additional Requirements
