Job Title: ChauffeurThis is responsible chauffeur work in the operation of buses in transporting residents of the community to and from various locations on the islands. Employees in this class are responsible for operating a vehicle in a safe and proper manner at all times. Work is performed according to established schedules and specific instructions. Work is planned and reviewed with a supervisor for conformity with instructions and safe driving practices and proper care of the vehicle.Duties (Not All Inclusive):Operates medium and heavy buses in transporting residents to and from various locations on the island.Checks vehicle to determine that it is supplied with gas and oil, that tires are properly inflated, lights are working properly.Assures proper fares are deposited.Provides direction and information about bus schedules, facilities and operations. Maintains records of supplies, mileage covered, and other related information as required. Vehicles configured for American with Disabilities Act (ADA).Monitors bus entry of wheelchair bound passengers by observing approach to lift, operating lift control, observing entrance onto full length of bus, and securing belt for passenger safety.Reports to supervisor incidents of accidents, residents' misbehavior, dangerous road conditions and other unusual situations and conditions.Picks up and drops off from curb to curb, travels to schedule destination then returns to original pick-up point.Collect fares from ADA clients and record same.Performs other related work as required.Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma and at least two (2) years' experience in operation of heavy automotive vehicle. Necessary Special Qualifications: Candidates must obtain a Class B driver's license within 12 months of hire.Position Factors:Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations and of safe driving practices.Knowledge of the operating principles of heavy passenger carrying automotive equipment. Ability to judge speed and distance of approaching vehicles.Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Ability to prepare and maintain routine reports.Ability to deal tactfully with irate and aggressive clients.Skill in the operation of automotive equipment.
