Job Title: Material Planner II
Location: Walkersville, MD 21793
Duration: 12 Months
Job Type: Temporary Assignment
Work Type: Hybrid - Onsite Monday to Wednesday, and Remote on Thursday and Friday.
Summary:
This role is pivotal in maintaining the seamless flow of materials that support manufacturing operations. It requires a proactive approach to supply planning, coordination, and inventory management to ensure uninterrupted production and optimal resource utilization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Support: Ensure daily material availability through execution and monitoring of MRP results, release of purchase requisitions, and coordination with buyers and cross-functional teams to prevent production delays.
  • Planning Oversight: Maintain accurate material master data and planning parameters in SAP ECC to balance service levels, inventory targets, and demand fluctuations.
  • Process Enhancement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve planning accuracy, streamline communication between Planning, Purchasing, and Quality, and reduce waste via data-driven analysis.
  • Problem Resolution: Investigate and resolve material shortages, capacity constraints, and exception messages; escalate through tiered meetings as required.
  • Cost Management: Optimize inventory utilization through SMOG analysis, safety stock review, and scrap reduction to support cost control.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Review daily MRP results, release purchase requisitions, and address exception messages.
  • Coordinate and communicate material issues and resolutions with functional teams such as operational buyers and master schedulers.
  • Set up and maintain detailed MRP parameters in SAP ECC.
  • Collaborate with QA, Purchasing, and other teams to expedite material availability.
  • Update and monitor KPIs related to material performance and inventory.
  • Execute material mobilization or write-off actions to optimize inventory.
  • Conduct discard (SMOG) analysis and implement waste reduction plans.
  • Review and update safety stock and reordering parameters in SAP ECC.
  • Track and facilitate on-time material availability, including testing and release for production.
  • Create, review, and update SOPs and work instructions.
  • Participate in quality processes such as deviation, CAPA, and change control.
  • Review and execute raw material expiration extensions and stock conversions.
  • Support production planning as needed.
  • Participate in assigned projects and other related tasks.
Required Skills:
  • Bachelors or Masters in Supply Chain Management
  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in supply chain or production planning.
  • Experience in process improvement initiatives and data-driven decision-making.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with SMOG analysis and waste reduction strategies.
  • Prior exposure to biotech or manufacturing environments.
  • Capability to train or back up production planning functions.
  • Strong SAPECC skill in Material Master, Material Requirement Planning, and exception message monitoring.
  • Strong experience with SAP ECC for material and inventory planning.
  • Expertise in MRP (Material Requirements Planning) execution and exception management.
  • Solid understanding of supply chain principles and inventory optimization.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and KPI reporting.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and problem-solving abilities.
