Our Core Values guide everything we do Every Person Matters® | Together We Can Do Great Things® | This Is More Than a Job® Position Overview The Field Mechanic Tech I supports the inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of mobile and stationary equipment used across Capitol Aggregates' plant locations. This field-based role travels to multiple plant sites to perform service work on heavy and light automotive equipment, earth-moving machinery, internal combustion engines, compressors, pumps, manlifts, forklifts, and related equipment. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, safe work habits, and the ability to work independently while providing timely support to plant operations. What You'll Do Travel to assigned plant locations to complete maintenance and repair work in the field. Perform maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment, completing both major and minor mechanical work as assigned. Respond to routine service calls on on-road and off-road equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on heavy equipment including loaders, bulldozers, haul trucks, and skid steers. Complete welding, fabrication, and basic machine work as needed. Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical systems with appropriate supervision or escalation. Operate a service truck safely in plant environments and around traffic. Maintain clean work areas, tools, and service vehicles daily. Support PM crews or shop personnel as assigned. Follow all company and plant safety standards, rules, and regulations. NOTE: This list presents only the essential duties of the position and is not intended to be comprehensive. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as dictated by business needs and conditions. As an essential function of the job, good attendance is required. What You'll Bring Required Skills and Abilities Proficiency with basic computer applications used for diagnostics, reporting, and work orders. Ability to utilize diagnostic software to troubleshoot and repair component systems, with training as needed. Ability to safely operate a truck-mounted crane. Ability to provide personal basic tools required for routine work. Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new systems. Ability to work independently when dispatched to remote plant locations. Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree in Diesel Mechanics highly desired but not required. Valid and clean driver's license required. Other Qualifications Customer-service mindset with ability to support multiple plant locations professionally. Flexibility in work schedules and start times. Ability to travel up to one (1) week at a time if required. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
