Mechanical Design Engineer Apply
Position SummaryApplies engineering principles to research, design, and develop new products and systems that meet customer standards and design requirements. Translates broad concepts into reliable, cost-effective, and manufacturable products. Utilizes CAD systems to design and draft functional mechanisms, assemblies, tools, and components, including locks, latches, slides, hinges, valves, actuators, springs, cable/tubing harnesses, pumps, etc.Essential FunctionsCreate high-quality engineering models, sales models, assemblies, and detailed drawings based on ideas, sketches, marked-up drawings, or layouts.Conduct tolerance analysis of complex mechanisms, applying knowledge of true position and conventional tolerancing.Perform necessary calculations using trigonometry and algebra.Redesign existing hardware to improve performance, which may include designing testing tools and fixtures, and assisting in validation of the redesign.Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and assembly hierarchies.Understand and work within a PDM/PLM drawing release process.Modify design features of existing products and conceptualize components/assemblies for new development under supervision.Select appropriate materials based on product requirements.Perform additional duties as assigned.Qualifications, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong mathematical aptitude, including knowledge of basic algebra and trigonometry.Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.Effective team player with a collaborative mindset and experience in concurrent engineering.Proficient in SolidWorks; FEA experience is a plus.Education and ExperienceDegree in Mechanical Engineering; Associate degree acceptable with relevant experience.Solid understanding of mechanical design, dimensioning, tolerancing, and GD&T.Minimum of 3 years of design experience.In-depth knowledge of mechanical components and mechanisms such as gears, bearings, actuators, controls, springs, etc.Work EnvironmentPhysical Demands: Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, or hear.Lifting Requirements: Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.Work Conditions: Exposure to typical office conditions as well as factory floor environment. The workspace is air-conditioned and heated; noise level is moderate.
