PERIKIN Enterprises is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our innovative team in Tullahoma, TN. As a Mechanical Design Engineer at PERIKIN, you will play a key role in the design and development of mechanical systems, components, and industrial facilities. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate conceptual ideas into detailed designs and ensure the successful execution of projects. Your expertise will be crucial in contributing to the advancement of our products and technologies.

This position is currently eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

  • Work closely with project managers and engineering teams to conceptualize and develop new mechanical designs.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and analyze design concepts for functionality, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Utilize CAD software to modify models for FEA purposes and review drawings as necessary
  • Ensure designs conform to technical specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate prototype fabrication and testing to validate design concepts and iterate based on test results.
  • Collaborate with testing and quality assurance teams to ensure designs meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Analyze existing designs and propose improvements to enhance product performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to ensure continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, calculation packages, design review material, assembly instructions, and bill of materials (BOM).
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, procurement, and service teams to resolve design-related issues and optimize production processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Communicate design concepts, ideas, and project updates clearly and concisely to stakeholders and team members.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering and design.
  • Participate in R&D initiatives to innovate and develop new product solutions that meet market needs and business objectives.

EDUCATION

  • A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in engineering in an aerospace related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in performing mechanical design
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or appropriate related discipline.
  • Master's degree in engineering related field is highly desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus
  • Experience with aerospace component product development, prototyping, and design transition to manufacturing.
  • Experience with the preparation of technical documentation, including assembly instructions, calculation packages, parts lists, and specifications to support manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Experience working closely with Mechanical Designers to assist in developing new products or improving existing ones by translating design concepts into detailed drawings.
  • Familiarity with best practices for configuration management and asset hierarchies.
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Design or similar role.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (Inventor, Revit, etc.) and other drafting tools.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and other simulation tools.
  • Certification or licensure (e.g., PE license) is desired.

  • Willingness for up to 5% travel
  • Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
  • Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
  • Effectively communicate in Business English language.
  • Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
