Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

A Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of major amusement rides and roller coasters.

Responsibilities

    • Assist in definition of mechanical system performance requirements, concept generation, Trade Studies, FMEAs, design review, and selection.
    • Participate in hazard analyses (risk assessments) for new rides or new ride functions. Document safety hazards, mitigation methods, and system reliability.
    • Perform stress and fatigue analysis of mechanical structures and components using finite element analysis (FEA) and classical strength-of-material calculations. Estimate component factors of safety against loading failure and fatigue.
    • Create stress analysis reports to document ride component strength and fatigue life conform to industry code requirements.
    • Review, analyze, and report on test data (accelerometer data, strain gage data).
    • Participate in or lead engineering design reviews with customers and 3rd-party reviewers.
    • Other duties may include feasibility and safety testing, research and development, and team leadership and/or management of designers, drafters, and other engineers.

    Requirements

    • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • 5+ years practical post-grad experience in mechanical equipment design and stress analysis, preferably in the amusement ride industry
    • Solid computer skills, including CAD Software (e.g., SolidWorks and AutoCAD), Mathcad, and FEMAP.
    • Working knowledge using GD&T and Tolerance Analysis.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with engineering team members and customers.
    • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally occasionally as required.
    • Working knowledge with industry standards (domestic and international)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 7+ years practical post-grad experience in performing mechanical systems design and analysis.
    • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Design experience in multiple-disciplinary projects, coordinating with mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering processes.
    • Experience working with international 3rd party reviewers (e.g., TUV, CSEI).
    • Experience in preparing project documentation and maintenance manuals.
    • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license
