Position Description :

The Mechanical Engineer (Navy Corrosion Control) will be on a dynamic team, developing and revising installation and alteration drawings, and other deliverables.


This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level clearance post-employment.


Serco supports the Navy as prime for their Amphibious Assault & Connectors program. Located in the heart of the Bostons Seaport District, the Planning Yard team supports the Landing Craft Division in the maintenance of the Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC), the planning and maintenance of the new Ship to Shore Connector (SSC) and the configuration and engineering management of the new Landing Craft, Utility (LCU) 1700. In this role, you will support the Engineering team in the life cycle and sustainment efforts of the craft, including leading the Corrosion Control efforts for the Fleet.


Overall, you will be part of a 12-person Engineering team consisting of mechanical, electrical, and naval architectural engineers that works closely with the customer in delivering quality products and services to the fleet.


In this role you will:

  • Serve as the primary Corrosion Control Engineer in the Planning Yard for the Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) and the Ship to Shore Connector (SSC) programs.
  • Assist the customer with coordinating meetings, discussions, and action items for the Corrosion Inspection Working Group (CIWG).
  • Manage and track corrosion trends through a tracking spreadsheet and the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Maintain copy of 3D CAD model for LCAC 100 and LCU 1700 Class.
  • Develop and revise installation and alteration drawings for the LCAC Extended Service Life Extension Program (E-SLEP) and other ongoing availabilities, Craft Change Documents (CCDs), and Liaison Action Requests (LARs).
  • Travel periodically to the Units to conduct corrosion inspections on the craft as required, analyze, and report the findings and develop trend analysis reports.
  • Receives, analyzes, and utilizes LCAC Corrosion Control Inspection (CCI) files annually and incorporates findings into the Corrosion Trend Analysis Report (CTAR).
  • Develop and revise installation and alteration drawings in support of Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Craft Change Documents (CCDs), Liaison Action Requests (LARs), and other documentation.
  • Maintain and update the Corrosion Control Technical Manual.
  • Support the Planning Yard team in traveling to perform on-site craft inspections as necessary to verify craft configuration and accuracy of drawings and documentation.
  • Maintain workload and respond to tasking within the schedule and technical requirements identified in the Integrated Data Environment (IDE).
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Systems/Marine/Chemical Engineering or a related degree with 5-7 years of relevant work experience. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 11 years of relevant work experience. Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • You must be able to obtain an active DoD Secret clearance post-employment.
  • Proven, recent experience creating and updating drawings with AutoCAD is required.
  • Effective organization level communication, presentation, interpersonal and critical thinking skills is required.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or ShipConstructor 3D modeling program is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite programs: MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to shipyards to support craft audits or inspections when needed, usually once per quarter, or at least twice per year.
  • Must be able to work in small, confined spaces and climb ladders on the craft.
  • 10% travel is required.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Proficiency in developing fluid piping system schematics and installation drawings is strongly desired.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired but not required.
