ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Design: Create mechanical systems that meet customer needs and project specs. Cost-Effectiveness: Develop designs that are affordable based on project goals. Documentation: Maintain project records using SolidWorks PDM and IFS ERP systems. Bill of Materials (BOM) & Drawings: Generate BOMs and drawings for manufacturing. Systems Expertise: Design, test, and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Technical Support: Assist shop floor personnel and customers with technical issues. Field Support: Provide technical support, including communication and occasional site visits. Collaboration: Work closely with customers, suppliers, and colleagues throughout a project. Travel: May require occasional domestic and international travel for system startup and troubleshooting. Quality Assurance: Investigate and address quality control reports. Vendor Management: Collaborate with vendors to improve product quality and reduce costs. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to lift to 25 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. Willingness to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel‑toed boots) as required. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Office/cubicle environment. Shop environment including welding, overhead cranes, and forklift trucks. Field on-track environment. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural, mechanical, and hydraulic areas of machine design. Railcar experience of 1 or more years is a plus. Be aware of Lean production concepts. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be committed to customer service. Able to work to demanding deadlines. Work effectively as a team member or leader. Ability to facilitate and make decisions. Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD 2005 or higher. Knowledge of FMEA, Lean practices, Six Sigma and Value Engineering. FEA experience is a plus. Self‑motivated. Hydraulic system design/troubleshooting experience. Design experience in heavy machinery. Must maintain a valid passport and driver’s license; abide by our Corporate Fleet Policy.
