General Summary The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for laboratory specimen processing, test performance, and test result reporting in the clinical departments of the laboratory. The position also performs quality control, quality assurance and preventive maintenance procedures according to laboratory protocols. Strives to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction through activities and interaction with customers. Minimum Qualification Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Associate's Degree. Successful completion of a two‑year post‑high school program in Medical Laboratory Technology. Meets federal guidelines (CLIA) for performing high complexity testing. Knowledge and experience working with Laboratory Information systems preferred. Knowledge of OSHA regulations as it applies to the clinical laboratory. Knowledge of patient age‑specific criteria for laboratory testing. Required Length and Type of Experience One (1) year experience working in a clinical laboratory, including experience with automated/semi‑automated instrumentation and manual procedures. Required Licensure or Certification MLT (ASCP) preferred or proof of qualification to sit for examination within 6 months. Required Physical and Environmental Demands Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment.
