Laboratory TechnicianResponsible for performing chemical, hematology, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and blood bank analysis in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.Job Duties:Orders lab test accurately in the LIS computer systemReceives lab samples in the LIS computer system for processingProcess and analyze lab samples appropriately for each lab departmentEnsures quality lab testing and instrument performanceAdheres to regulatory compliance guidelinesMaintains competency requirementsCollect drug screens using correct form and generate correct chargeLabel and handle lab specimens properlyPerforms venipuncture to obtain blood sample using appropriate type of equipment to adjust to patient age. Use two identifiers to identify patient when collecting samplesEnsures supplies are well stocked in all areas. Monitor inventory and orders supplies from Material ManagementAlways answers phone using proper phone courtesyMaintains an organized and clean working area Research and resolve problems with lab samples and test reports by looking up patient results in the LIS computer system and fax to proper personnelSupports departmental goals and objectivesOther related duties as assignedRequirements:Associate Degree from an accredited school in Medical TechnologyEligible for employment upon graduationCertified as a Medical Laboratory TechnicianCurrent Louisiana State License as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-TechnicianCurrent BLS certificationMental and visual acuity is essential for this job; the ability to discern and differentiate colors by demonstration of successful colorblindness assessment is required.Work Schedule: Various 12-hour shifts
