Medical Records SpecialistAppropriately and accurately verify and process requests for charts to be pulled for patient care, quality review, and audits in a timely manner. Accurately scan and index medical records to the appropriate chart. Release information to patients, healthcare facilities and other entities while following all laws and regulations including HIPAA. Make certain that medical records are accounted for and completed within a timely manner. Accurately abstracts and analyzes charts and analyzes charts for prompt completion for medical and legal documentation and coding to further ensure the prompt and accurate payment of claims. Performs password management, adding/modifying user profiles, adding document types, adding/modifying record reviews, adding/modifying record view groups, adjusting document indexes, printing/faxing/emailing maintenance, adding/modifying workflow group permissions, and monitor workflow queues.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesPromote the mission, vision, and values of the organizationAppropriately and accurately pulls records for patient care, quality review, and audits in a timely manner when requested.Observe confidentiality and safeguard all patient related information.Responsible for coordinating the release of medical information to insurance companies, lawyers, state, and federal agencies, etc.Responsible for processing of subpoenas and court orders, at the direction of the HIM director.Verify authorizations in accordance with hospital policy and procedures and state and federal laws.Ensure authorizations for records are valid with signatures and ID.Ensure authorizations for treatment, payment and operations meet HIPAA guidelines.Notify the requester when records are available if not available at the time of request.Maintain a good working relationship within the department and other departments.Adhere to hospital requirements, policies, and standards.Provide excellent customer service.Retrieving and filing of off-site archived recordsDocument capture-batching, scanning, indexing, quality check and releasing to legal record.Department documentation retrieval from hospital and or clinicsDocumentation analysis with application of deficiency as needed.Answering office phone.Responding to voicemails within 24 hours, not to include weekend.Non-Essential FunctionsPerforms other duties as assigned.Roosevelt General Hospital (RGH) is committed to providing safe, quality care to patients.
