High School Diploma/GED and five years of experience. Coursework in a related field may substitute for some years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications
2 years of Veterinary clerical experience
1 year of medical record experience

Description of Position
This position is responsible for collecting, processing, analyzing and making available accurate, timely, secure and complete VMC medical record data that may consist of both paper and electronic information. This includes auditing records to ensure all necessary information, verifications and signatures are properly completed. This position is also responsible for processing medical record information requests from internal and external sources such as clients, referring veterinary clinics, VMC staff and students via phone or email.

45% - Filing electronic medical records
Organizing, scanning and attaching paper patient medical record documents to a patients electronic medical record
Organize, manage and process the shared drive where referring veterinary medical records reside until they are attached to a patients electronic medical record
Daily upkeep of patient episodes such as deleting duplicate documents, discharging patients, exempting or adding medical record requirements

30% - Customer Service
Download, organize and transfer patient medical records to clients and referring veterinary clinics upon request via mail, fax or email
Process, set up and manage access to the VMC Patient Portal
Process insurance claim requests
Assist hospital personnel with data searches

25% - Auditing medical records
Audit electronic patient records for accuracy and deficiencies according to VMC policies
Problem solve VMC electronic data systems issues working in conjunction with the informatics department personnel
Inspect data for errors, inconsistencies, redundancies and incomplete information
Manage/Update Client and Patient account info such as proper spelling, address, breed, DOB and deceased dates

Salary Range: $23.14 to $29.18

The Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) has served the community for more than a century. It is the most advanced, full-service referral care center for large and small animals in Minnesota. The VMC sees more than 35,000 cases annually, with specialists available in all areas of medicine and surgery. More than 50 of the veterinarians on staff have undergone several years of additional training to become board-certified specialists in a particular area of veterinary medicine. The Veterinary Medical Center is comprised of the Small Animal Hospital for dogs, cats, and other companion animals, the Piper Clinic at the new Leatherdale Equine Center, for horses, and the Large Animal Hospital, which treats farm animals, and occasionally, zoo animals.
